The ‘Friends’ episode will be reinvented with an all-black cast

Some famous faces are teaming up to recreate an episode of “Friends” with an all-black cast.

In an Instagram post on Monday, Ryan Michelle Bathe revealed the project with a video showing the original “Friends” transforming into the updated cast. The all-black cast, consisting of Bathe, Sterling K. Brown, Uzo Aduba, Aisha Hinds, Kendrick Sampson and Jeremy Pope, will read the season 3 episode “The One Where No One’s Ready.”

The “Zoom Where It Happens” event page says the “Friends” event will be led by Salli Richardson-Whitfield and presented by Gabrielle Union.

“Taaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa? he captioned the post, referencing the comedy’s main theme. “To register, check the link in my bio!”

In a follow-up post, Bathe shared an image listing the roles of the new cast: Bathe will play Rachel, Brown will play Ross, Aduba is Phoebe, Hinds is Monica, and Pope is Chandler. That leaves Sampson to play Joey.

Some took to the comments section of their posts to share their enthusiasm.

Ava DuVernay wrote: “I love seeing you work with such grace and humility behind the scenes. Now we can watch you play! “

Correspondent Nischelle Turner wrote: “My God, my God …”

Actress Lindsey Gort wrote: “DON’T MISS THIS FOR ANYTHING”

To register for the virtual event, fans must “sign up to receive messages on how you can make a change during this election.”

The virtual table reading is scheduled to begin Tuesday at 8 p.m.

Earlier this month, “The Golden Girls” had its own reinvention with an all-black cast that included Tracee Ellis Ross, Regina King, Sanaa Lathan, and Alfre Woodard. That episode was directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and hosted by Lena Waithe.
